Melita Jackson who was written out of mother’s will is awarded £160k | Daily Mail Online.

this is an interesting case, where the mother is estranged from the daughter and specifically said in her will she do not want the daughter getting anything from her estate.

she gave the money to 3 charities.

the court has now said the daughter should have some of it. it is hinting that the mother did it out of spite, because the daughter disobeyed her and eloped at 17yrs old with someone she disapprove of.

they are still together, which does make u think that mother is really controlling and spiteful.

after all those years, surely anyone who love someone must realise they are wrong and admit it.

instead she carried that spite to her grave.

the mother lost out in some ways too in never being able to know her grandchildren. and in the end have no one to give the money to but to give it to charities which she dont even have much association with when she was alive.

the judgement is a humane one, though technically the law is clear that the will should be honoured.

i wonder if the money was given to a person, whether that might sway the judge to up hold it. charities are institutions, and so maybe not viewed the same as if the money was left to a person.

hi, do u think children are entitled to get some inherintance from parents after they passed away?

i think almost all parents will let their children inherit. who else to give it to, when u come to think of it. but when it is in a case like this where the mother is controlling and wants to punish the daughter for marrying against her wishes, or where the ageing parent suddenly gets it in their mind that the children are uncaring or just wants her money and waiting for her to die, that u get problems. dementia can make a person feel prosecuted. u can do the best thing and still have your parents think u are uncaring and forcing them into a nursing home, even though it is obvious they are senile and need specialist care. but then u have the human element, some parents just hate their children, or some children hate their parents. so why should they inherit? right? but everyone should remember that once dead, they cannot take the money with them, and so they should just let the money go to whoever needs it. personally i dont want to give everything to charity, giving it to people is better. maybe it is because i dont like that charities spend money on administrators who are paid for it. the system supports a lot of these people. perhaps it is not a logical reason. haha. charities have to have people running it and it has to get donations, or it will go bankrupt. the charity i support will be one that pays out all its funds to the people it says it will help and then shut down. i know it is a fairy tale and will never happen.

I agree with you. Some parents had their own ideas of whom the best to receive their money. I personally think, if your children need the money why give it to somebody else. After all they are your own flesh and blood, however much you hated them.
