big changes proposed for vauxhall cross

24 Nov

london 7.41pm tuesday

got a email from tfl, saying they are going to consult on the huge changes to the traffic flow in vauxhall. they want to make some roads two way. seems sensible really, so that cars dont have to go all round the gyratory to get to the other side when they could have just cut across.

what it will mean is that those living in houses along one side, miles street, will find the plans extend the traffic to their quiet side street. the people there wont like it that is for sure. at the moment there are not many houses there, but they are planning a huge block of expensive flats in future.

the new plans  would free up space that is now taken up by part of the bus terminal to allow shops to be built, maybe with even flats above. who knows really. anything is possible when u have that plot of land freed up to play with. added. i just have a thought, maybe they should not plan on anything too permanent as who knows in future they might need that space for another big change of traffic.

More cities are adopting no car zones.

not london haha. what we do is let them use their cars but charge them for it, so that way let market forces influence people’s decision. rather than force everyone to go car-less, and reducing people to the lowest denominator. another way is to make it hell to bring the car, with long traffic jams, traffic lights that dont favour the car, etc and make them so fed up they dont want to drive in. dont think i like that latter solution. it just makes people angry.
