one link leads to another and google photos

i went through a series of links that ended in me  finding a video showing how google photos works. and it seems to be the solution to storing all those photos that everyone seem to be taking these days.

i first got a link in a tech reader by this blog, the overspill, it is my favorite for tech news. and it featured an article in the verge about dropbox, closing down mailbox,an email app and carousel, a photo app. it seems the innovations that mailbox first developed are taken up and used by the other rivals; and photos are done better by others.

his comment is very insightful, that dropbox will have to find a new business model, since its main business of giving away free storage is being undermined by so many others doing the same thing.

and then as i went into the verge link (and i am glad i did, because it is so easy to just read it on his blog and not go in, there is always more if u go into the original website); and scrolled down i saw a video showing how google photos works.

and it is really an eye opener for me. i dont take many photos but even I realise i am losing track of them. i just put them in google drive. but this google photos seem to be the answer to accessing them by topics and search. it is made for smartphones for now.  they will bring it to the pc later i think. u can see why smartphones  are the rage, so many apps giving more function all geared towards the smartphone user.

the danger of course is that u put all these photos to a third party, and u will be held hostage to them in future.

in the old days, u can store your photos in hard drive and no one can close a website and u lose them all. or restrict the bandwidth or ask u to pay for it.

google is making a lot of businesses go obsolete as it offers all these free… it mines data so it relies on these free offers to provide the data.

added 3.32pm, i found out that i actually have my pictures in google photos. funny i did not even know i got it. it seems just by putting my photos in google cloud i have got myself subscribed to google photos.

Yes I got an email from Dropbox saying my 2year trial was over and I have to pay. I will just move it all somewhere else but really it’s just something else I have to do.

i did not know this, either, thought it was free, but of course cant expect it to be free forever. the trouble you are likely have lots of pics there, and to move all of them (to where?) is a bother really.
