junior doctors will resign en mass

It is then expected ministers will move to impose a new contract on England’s 55,000 junior doctors, who represent a third of the medical workforce.

The new contracts would then come into force from August. They would apply to all new junior doctors immediately but would also be imposed as existing junior doctors changed their rotations – it is expected 80% would be on it within six months.

if the govt impose the new contract, i would suggest that the junior doctors resign en mass. and join a locum agency. and the govt will find itself paying double if not triple the rate. with the agency getting half , and find it difficult even then to fill the weekend and evening posts. the doctors would also start earning good money working as locums, and be able to call the shots as to how long and often they work. locum work is more lucrative and it is only some misguided sense of duty to the nhs, that doctors work on contract with the nhs. this imposition of a contract will kick many of them to leave and go the locum route.
