cleaning jobs

12 Mar

london 8.35am fog (white fog and not the can’t- see- the- hand type) saturday 2016

perhaps fog is quite common around this time of year, but it is still unusual for it to be commented on.this fog is the first time it appears this year.   i forgot that there is fog last year around this time too…i searched my blog and found that fog happened in nov 2015. (and no mention of fog any time else. has there been no foggy days at all before nov 2015 in london?) and today just reminded me of those days. i remember saying it gives a nice ghostly feel to the place.

this morning a article in vice, showed me topshop cleaners are demonstrating. they want the living wage £9.50 an hour, instead of the minimum wage £7.50 an hour (only if they are over 25yrs old)which they will be getting in april. at present they are getting about £6.70 an hour.

as usual demonstrating against top shop is pointless when it is their contracting company that they should be dealing with. the cleaning is subcontracted. and of course the company will go bankrupt if it gives them the living wage when all the other cleaning companies dont. and then they will all be out of a job. it is only osbourne bringing in the increased minimum wage in his budget that forces everyone to up their rates. it is a good thing, i think. though i bet it will mean the companies will be hiring more under 25s, and sacking them when they reach 25yrs old. so the 25s have better up their skills quick to show they are still worth retaining.

allready businesses are saying there will be job loses when the new minimum wage is implemented in april. though i have a feeling cleaners will always be in demand.

Well companies say how they pay all their staff a living wage and then neglect to mention how half their staff are contracted in and so they don’t count. John Lewis are one of the worse offenders on this one.

i think all of them do this, contract out the cleaning. but i think once the minimum wage (£7.50 in london) is implemented in april all of the contracting companies will have to conform to it. these cleaners should praise osbourne for it. they all get a wage rise. except the under 25s. i wonder why the under 25s dont protest about it? seems rather discriminatory to pick that age. why not under 21s? though some supermarkets are paying everyone the same, irregardless of age.

I’ve heard “money laundering ” is the best cleaning job ever.
