shopping points and how it influenced no receipts.

london 11.27am 19.4C cloudy tuesday 2017

its been much cooler thank goodness. rain clouds above threatening to rain, and i wish it would. but so far no rain. at least it is cooler. there are plenty of people like me i am sure who are not all that keen on the hot weather we had recently. all those forecast enticing us with their promise (or threat depanding how u see it) of rain. but so far nothing doing. but maybe it is not necessary to rain, it is allready getting cooler even without the rain.

i passed through victoria station this morning, and they were giving out free sample bottles of lucozade, with a leaflet advertising deliveroo services and lucky draws for free delivery , but it entails giving them my email address and i am not that interested in using these food delivering service so i decided not to enter.

though really it is no big thing to give them my email address, it is easy to block them if they pester me too much. haha. also i know that feeling when u log onto your email and find no messages not even scam mail, and you can feel so unloved haha.

i have not used any of these delivering services… as i am rather distrustful of them, but mainly because i have to pay for it and also have to hang around the flat waiting for them to come and that i dislike. also their prices are high these takeaway meal services.

but maybe the trend is to have things delivered to your door and lots of people like it. who knows really. i have long ago accept that i am not typical of the ordinary user.

i still prefer to go to the shops to do my shopping. this morning i went to the tesco near me, and when i checked out, using the self service , i found they dont give me a receipt. i asked the helper, and she says u have to say yes to it… but i was not given the choice i said. i never saw that message asking me if i want a receipt, and the machine seems to assume that i dont want one. i must say i scolded the helper saying to her, ‘why are u doing it , are u trying to save paper’? i know it is rather unfair on her as she is not responsible. anyway i told her you are getting feedback from me, tell your boss to stop it and give out receipts to everyone. ‘if i go out and they stop me how am i to prove that i paid for these?’, i said. she had no answer to that. sigh, poor thing, i am sure she must get a lot of that from customers. haha.

when i got back , i went online to do their survey. they have the information about the survey on the receipt, supposedly  for a chance to win a £1000 in a draw, but i wanted to tell them off for not automatically giving us a receipt. i wonder how many people write in complaining of that. maybe not many because they are still doing it.

hmm, i think i know why they dont give a receipt. it is the points that people can collect… many have taken to picking up unwanted receipts and passing it off as their own shopping and claim the points.

added. 9.12pm 15.5C rain . i remembered that i should google it, to find out if there is any info about this no receipt thing. and i got this article by dailymail, dated 25oct2016.  it looks like it is coupled with sending the receipt to the smartphone to bring in a paperless environment.  they also save on printing ink, which is very expensive.

and it will still not benefit those who dont have smartphones, nor wish their phone numbers given to tesco. when i was using it, they never told me that i could get my receipt sent to me if i got a smartphone. no where , not in the receipt or on the screen on the self service machine does it say so.

added. 9.22am friday 14.7.17 cloudy 17.5C not a coincidence that i received in the post a new tesco clubcard. this time it has a square whatsit with a pattern on it, which i know people with smartphones can scan. my old clubcard dont have it. so it looks like this new card can allow a smartphone user to get his receipt . i suppose it is some kind of app. it is not much used to me, as i dont have  a smartphone. it seems everyone with a smartphone knows about paperless receipt. it has been going on for some time apparently.

Shops usually guilt trip me out of asking for a receipt; they ask ‘do you want a receipt’? in a way that implies that I shouldn’t and so I don’t get one. But you get used to it and it is easier to keep receipts electronically. Doesn’t matter so much for groceries but for electronics and such by the time you’ve kept it a while the ink has faded and you can’t read the date to see if something is still insured. Much easier if you keep them in a little folder in your email.

I don’t know with tesco and all but with big ticket items they just offer it. With supermarkets I think it’s just another way to save money
