well, thank goodness all the hoo haa over the change in calendar year is over. things are back to normal today.

everyone use it as an excuse to booze. that is what i suspect it is all about really.

now i have to get used to writing 2018. i saw whsmith in victoria selling book diaries. i am surprised that people still buy those. they are used for appointments aren’t they? do we still have people writing their appointments in these diaries? they should come out of the old 20th century and enter the 21st century. haha. though even i write on my wall calendar, so maybe i have not left the 20th century after all.

added. the mayor of london has announced that end of this month the hopper fare, which limits 1hr bus journeys to two journeys is now going to be unlimited as long as they are within an hour of the first ride. he has allready freezed bus and tube fares till 2020.

so a big contrast with the rail fares which go up every year. as long as u live within the london zones 1-8 you will have an alternate to the train journey. train journeys are shorter though. still, capping on the tubes and buses might persuade a lot to use them and save money even though it will take longer.

correction. i realise that the fare is the same for all modes of transport   within the 1-8 zones. so it does not matter if u take the rail or tube. does this mean london transport subsidises the rail fares within the 1-8zones? can london afford it i wonder? perhaps the question is can tfl (Transport for london)afford it, because i think it comes out of their profits.

I still have the old fashioned diary every year. In fact, I get really excited about starting a new one.

so tell us why u like the old fashioned diaries so much. there must be lots of people who do, or they wont be selling so many of them. but what is the attraction of these diaries?

Well I actually really enjoy stationary shops; I can happily spend time browsing coloured pens and notebooks, so it may well be me. I bought this pretty pink diary in Mexico and I spent a lot of time before then new year just looking at it. It was quite expensive by Mexican standards, and I found out later that it’s a kind of Mexican designer diary; the company has a whole pile of Instagram followers, although I suspect mostly from people in Mexico.

i know what you mean about browsing stationery shops. you would love whsmith in victoria with a whole top mezzanine floor devoted to stationery. i like looking at the wall calendars, and the greeting cards with rude innuendos. and those book diaries seem to call out to me to buy them, though i just like touching them , and rifling the pages and just feel their weight, they promise so much that i can write a novel on it, or fill it full of exciting adventure. but in the end nothing is written and nothing happens. you could use yours as a scrap diary, paste all the odds and ends that u accummulate, that evokes the places you visit. i seem to find the staplers very fascinating…i wonder if there is something freudian about liking them.
