traveller problems

london 9.11am 8.8C cloudy friday 2018

another mild day today. or rather a mild night because if any cold comes it will be at night… usually. though  i wont bet on it, with the british weather that is not a given. i have known it to be warmer at night than day.

what i noticed is that the coldest time is about 6am. though this morning it is 4am when it hit 5.9C.

but today the big trouble is my friend could not find his american passport and local bank details. he got dual citizenship, in fact he got triple citizenship, us, uk, and ireland, and got passports for all three. i think it a bother, juggling all these passports but then that is me, who just want a simple life.

every time he comes to visit uk, he has something stolen. that is another thing that i dont like about travelling… as a traveller, you are always a good target for thieves. not to mention if u are getting old, you leave things behind. and it is quite possible he took it out and then forget to put it back in his case. he tells me he make sure he did put it back. but it is easy to think you did. but i figured he is a good target for thieves anyway. any old man travelling alone is a good target.

that is another thing about travelling when you are young. you are not a target for thieves, because they know young people wont have a lot of money on them or have expensive possessions. but also, when you are young, your mind is far more alert and your reactions are swifter. i cannot say that for other young people, but when i was young that was what i was like.

only yesterday, i myself have been convinced i have switched off my cooker, and yet later i find i have not, instead i have turned it one stop up. but since i always switch it off at the plug, it got switched off anyway.

that is what happens when u get old. you are so convinced you did it, it is a bugger getting old i can tell you. !

well, i hope he can get a new US passport, it is to use when he gets back.

at least this time he did not have his laptop stolen, when he lost all the data for his business. that was a big loss.

but if i get things stolen or lost every time i travel, it would put me off travelling i can tell you. i am glad i have lost all desire to travel even before i get to that stage when i am always having things stolen or getting things lost. my soul does not want me to experience that i think.

ah well, as long as all this dont involve me, i will be grateful. that is why i am glad for an uneventful life.

added. 3.52pm 10.4C cloudy/drizzle.

happy to say my friend went to the american embassy, the new one in nine elms, it is like just down the road from me as it were over the river. so near  that   he walked there, and even though he did not have an appointment, they let him in, and after going through lots of security and shunted through  5 desks,or something like that and filling in lots of forms they told him they will send him a replacement passport in 2 wks … that was very quick and efficient i thought. to get that all sorted out with just one visit, and an unplanned and non appointment one at that.

so different from malaysia, where we malaysians know it will never be so easy. that is why a malaysian will fight to keep his passport safe, no matter what… and losing our passport is to us a major disaster, akin to life or death…but with usa or even british passport holders, they are so blase about losing it… and no wonder.

i was in the virgin lounge earlier and saw a tesco advert saying they are selling large fresh whole chickens for £2.25. a good offer that, so i took the bus to the tesco in kennington, and bought two. 1.91kg each, because if u go there quick, you can have your pick of large chickens. haha. they are now both in the oven, as i intend to roast both and we can have as much as we like , the 3 of us. with any left over i can freeze to eat another time. they are really good quality chickens, very dry, unlike most times when they are so wet when u take off the packaging, like they have soaked the chicken first and when you cook them, it is like steaming them instead of roasting them.

I agree. I don’t get to travel much right now but when I get older and start, I will probably just carry a backpack.
Oh! I thought of a couple more for you.

You are right that thieves target the old. Sad as I find that equivalent to a bully. They should pick on their own age of people and see if they can get away with it. They will be sorely hit for sure.

anyone who looks vulnerable , will be targetted. like the drunk person who is stumbling about… that is sure to catch the attention of muggers and thieves. its life i guess.
