i seem to have a lot of friends suddenly deciding to come and stay with me next week. i am also in the mood of liking company to stay. usually i like it if the friends i know are not fussy about the living facilities… that they like to rough it out. this is because i am not a house proud housewife type who like housekeeping and keeping a clean and fashionable house. so if u a guest, expect that my flat will be untidy and dusty. i dont mind dust. even unwashed dishes i dont mind provided they have water in them, so that it is easy to clean them later. nothing is worst than having dried food in them making it difficult to wash it off.

also next week i read here that there is a pop up restaurant that asked people to pay with  recycled stuff to get a free meal on 3-4th may.  they are linked to a company called ecover, who are replacing all their plastic bottles to be made with recycled plastics which themselves can be recycled. it seems you can get a free sample of their dish washing liquid. the trend to using less plastics and making them recycleable is gaining ground now.

Nice to have house guests. Have fun at the pop up restaurant. These days over here too lots of pop up shops but no free meals or free anything. Just a taste in a teaspoon or toothpick served at a stand in the supermarket.

i sometimes wonder how effective is that ploy of letting people taste the food.do anyone go on to enter the restaurant and buy a meal? this morning i was at the waitrose in marylebone high st and there they were giving samples of tuna in rice roll, but with hot chili in it. quite a novel item, because one never associates tuna rolls with hot chili powder. i suppose it replaces the wasabi hot sensation.

Now that is indeed novel. Using hot chilli to replace wasabi. I can imagine using chilli padi…that packs a lingering whallop and very different than wasabi as the effecting for chilli padi is lingering spicy heat!

i think if they use chili padi, it might be too expensive, and also too hot. so they use chilli powder. some people, westerners i would think may not like wasabi… it has a weird sensation at the back of the throat that is indescribable, and can bring tears to the eyes. so maybe those people may prefer chilli powder. i think it interesting, these experiments with mixing tastes sensations, and finding new combinations, though i can understand traditional japanese eaters may not like the meddling of their cuisine.

I like the taste of wasabi and enjoy it with sushi. I will not like chilli powder with it though. But i like chilli flakes with pizza though!
