pepsi vs coke

london 4.27pm 30C cloudy tuesday 2018

i was in victoria station and they were doing a blind tasting of coke and pepsi, organised by the pepsi people. when asked i said i dont have preference for any of them… i took the test and comparing the two i found one tasted sweeter than the other, and not being a person who likes too sweet, i opted for the less sweet one, and it turned out to be coke. the lady assistant told me both contained sweeteners. and in this article i found out that pepsi is sweeter and it seems always topped the taste test, with people preferring it to coke, and yet coke as always outsell pepsi. i dont have preference to either of them, and in fact seldom drink them.

one suggestion as to why in tests people say they like pepsi, but go out and buy coke instead… maybe due to the fact that one sip is not really a good test… people drink a lot of coke when they buy it, and it might be they find pepsi too sweet when drunk in huge amounts. it was an interesting test.

but coming to this test, it might be those who chose the coke dont get a free drink of pepsi. haha. not that i noticed anyone giving out free pepsi drinks… the assistant gave me a 50p off coupon to buy pepsi instead.

pepsi is not seen in the shops much in london. either no one is buying it, hence the shops dont stock it, or… that might be the explanation. if there is a demand for it, the shops will stock it. the fact they dont, suggest people are not asking for it.

the coke can , the red colour is more attractive than the blue of pepsi, i think. but i dont drink either, so i guess we should ask a coke drinker if we want to know more of why they buy it instead of pepsi.

I always liked Pepsi more than Coke. But that was when I actually drank sugary drinks. Now they are WAY too sweet for my taste.

It can be harder to find Pepsi; even in supermarkets where they stock both the coke often gets a better position on the shelves at eye level.
I much prefer Pepsi, but I buy coke if that’s what they have. I drink the diet versions but I have some addiction issues; I think it’s the artificial sweeteners that I’m actually addicted to.
Most people think they prefer coke but when they try they prefer Pepsi, which is what these taste tests are about. Coke certainly do some more effective advertising; the fact that the word coke is synonymous with the drink shows that; I often say I will have a coke when what I really mean is cola.

oh good, another comment. glad to hear from you. its interesting that both of you prefer pepsi. i wonder if pepsi is missing a trick here, in not making more prominent and inspiring adverts like coke does. too bad the red colour is taken, because i think it makes the drink more noticeable on the shelf.
