london 11.51am 16.3C cloudy wednesday 2018

the half yearly service charge for my 2bedroom flat came today in the post. it is £675.58

it’s only an estimate, but usually it is quite accurate.

there was also a statement of actual expenditure for 2017/18 .

£1290.25 (about £100 a month) for my flat’s share.

today is also the half yearly water bill. £152.08 . i dont have a water meter, so this one is a fixed bill, irregardless of how much water i use. it is about £304 a year.

We pay quarterly here. 6 months at a time is a big bill. On average our quarter charges for 2 BD are about $1,550 with top end properties at $3,600 or $4,00

i think your service charge is quite expensive. i think you must have lifts. in my estate, all excpt one(which is 6floors) of the blocks are 4 floors high, and they all have no lifts.

Yes we have lifts and garden plus cleaners. Cleaners are getting better wages now plus we pay for security guards to sleep here!

security guards!! is that necessary?? the old singapore i know would never even think of putting security guards in a housing estate block. in the old days , they rely on the residents to keep an eye out for trouble makers and to report them when they see them. similar to what we are doing here in our estate. usually it is drug dealers, hanging about and taking over the estate with gangs and such. luckily they dont come here. but i cant imagine singapore has any problem with drug dealers… or gangs.

Yes. More so to manage parking, prevent tresspaasers using the estate as a short cut, delivery people who may bang into lamp posts etc. No gangs, no gangsters, no drugs just selfish people who park indiscriminately and let friends park so that they can take train into the city as an example. These days no more kampong spirit🙁
