first time using my new chromebook

london 2.18pm 21C cloudy friday 2018

this is my second attempt at writing this post, not because it is difficult, but because i was writing that offline, and it was not saved and it got wiped off when i reload. ah well. nevermind.

i collected my new chrome book 11″ this morning from john lewis. and went upstairs to their cafe to charge it and to redeem the voucher they gave me for a free coffee and cake. the voucher is not connected to this purchase. they give it to me once a month in the past, though now it is once every 3months.

the nice thing about chromebook is that once you log on to the chrome os, it remembers all your favourites and passwords so that it is easy to pick up where u left off.

well now that i have a chance to play with it, i find it is quite easy to use. and no problem with the size of the text or it running out of the screen.

i remember back to 4yrs ago when i was so fearful of a smaller screen, thinking it will be a strain to see things. that was why i bought the 13″ screen. now there are no 13″ on sale but 14″ instead. and i find those far too big now. there is a 12″ but it is quite expensive.

and now the price has even gone down. it used to be £200 for an 11″ chromebook 4yrs ago.

it is surprising to see the market being driven up, to larger screens. when you consider everyone is fixing things to accommodate the small screen of smartphones, so that the extra space in wide screens are just used to fill with adverts.

and this smaller size laptop is so much easier to put inside my gym bag and to carry around.

what i noticed is that it is not possible to download the photos from my camera to the blog. that seems to be the only downside. perhaps i can figure it out in future.

We all use ipads, Galaxy tabs and laptops here. No one I know uses a chromebook.

i find it strange why not. it is much cheaper than a laptop. here students use it, so maybe people think it is not a serious thing, only good for children.

I love how you always manage to find a freebie for something! Do you think the vouchers handed out by stores like John Lewis work for customer loyalty? Or are they just a good deal?

i think in the past it was just a reward for customer loyalty. they started giving it to me, once a month when i bought that 13″ chromebook 4yrs ago. and informed them of it when i logged in with the membership card. then for years i never buy anything big from the store, so they reduced the perk to once every 3 months. now i bought but i lost the membership card and i forgot that i got a free voucher with me when i bought the chromebook. it seems you have to let them log in with the card when u pay , not when u collect the goods. but recently i heard john lewis is not profiting with their never undersold policy, because they have to reduce their price if others do, and that must be the reason why i was able to get this 11″ chromebook for a lower price than the currys store. their 2 yr guarantee is also unique to them. and that is a big selling point to me. because i got a free 13″chromebook from it when the first one kaput about 2yrs ago.
i think that also explains why the big department stores that they have are now selling only very high end goods, where the profit margin is bigger. and hoping that the customer will opt for it rather than go online to order the cheaper ones. though they should look out for customers like me, whose laptop have gone kaput and so they wont be able to get online easily to order another one . also i dont like buying online as i have to use a credit card as i prefer cash. i see even the store dont like cash, as they ask me to buy a gift card and use that to pay.
