jackfruit used to make vegan burger

london 11.49am 8C sunny monday 2018

i woke at about 10am today. but i went to sleep last night at 10pm then woke up at about 2am, and got online till about 4am. then went back to sleep again. and now it is too late to go to the free vegan burger they are giving out in shoreditch. this business is giving out 20 free vegan burgers every day this week. but 20 is a small number, and not worth going unless you go early to queue up. i have not tasted a vegan burger before, so maybe they taste great, but until i do taste one, i am thinking it cannot be as nice as a beef burger, so that it will take a lot to make me go and queue up for it. i think subconsciously i am not too bothered to go…

this company is using jackfruit to mimic a beef patty. those of us who have eaten jackfruit, (and i like it a lot.  we have a jack fruit tree in our garden in the family home in petaling jaya, malaysia ) may recall its flesh is very firm, and can have the texture of meat i suppose. but i think it is best eaten fresh and uncooked. but i wonder if cooking it might make it soft and lose its texture. i have seen jackfruit being sold in chinatown. it is still in the fruit, which they cut open to let u see inside. but from what i see, it is unripe and not as fleshy and colourful as the fresh fruits we get in our garden. so i am thinking maybe they will need to be cooked to make them edible. it must be difficult to transport the fruit to uk and artificially ripen it.

Jackfruit chips are the rage to eat now…from Vietnam freeze dried. Thailand has it too yummy. But for burger, I am trying to imagine the texture and smell.

fried jackfruit chips is a new one on me. i wonder how long before london takes up the jackfruit chips and start selling them. what other fruits can they freeze dry and do the same. but london may be the first to do the jackfruit vegan burger.
