my tv license charge £150.50

london 11.21pm 10.6C dry where i live now, even though it says it is raining now. monday 2019

i am thinking it is nice to have this rainy weather, so we dont have 6months of rain and 6months of drought like some countries do. the rain here is quite regular and comes evenly spread out over the year.

i got a letter from the tv licensing people, telling me it is now £150.50. it was £147 last year. people over 75yrs old get free tv license but it seems they might lose this in future.

it is like a subscription to bbc tv, a forced subscription, because even if you never watch bbc channels on tv, you still have to pay it. people might consider it unfair, and there have been talk of abolishing it in future and let the bbc go down the advertising route or find a way to restrict non subscribers from viewing it. ah well, i am not much bothered about paying it. i consider it part and parcel  like a utility. where u cannot avoid paying it.

and it is up to the police to try to catch you if u dont have a license. it makes me wonder if the police may not bother, as it cost them money and they are not being paid to do it.

a lot of people are stopping paying this license , saying they view it on their laptop and on catch up tv, rather than live; and so dont watch it on tv, and so dont have to pay. i dont quite see how they do it, but it is just too much bother for me really. also, i do watch bbc programs and appreciate their lack of interruptions for advertising so i guess i am using the service. it does seem very old fashioned way of funding tv.you can get a criminal record if u are caught not paying this license.

The BBC creates such great programmes, it would be a shame to cut off their funding. Perhaps it could be covered by an internet tax instead?

can you get bbc where u are? if so, u can see it will be difficult to get people living in france or wherever they are outside the uk to pay for it.
even here, if u get onto the iplayer and try to see the bbc catch up programs they ask whether you pay the license, and they dont check your answer. so anyone can just click on the yes button, even if they are lying, and they dont check by asking us to put in a code or anything to prove we have paid the license.

The more I travel the more I realise how good British TV is compared to most other countries.

i have forgotten that. you are right, as far as the english speaking world is concerned. not knowing any other language, i cannot say how good are spanish tv, or french tv, or german tv. or chinese tv. or singapore tv. maybe people in hongkong swear that their tv is the best, it serves everything up slanted to their dialect and point of view. i have heard that some of their chinese soaps can grip the nation like to the exclusion of all else and get everyone talking of it.
