muzak, or lack of it

london 10.09pm 8C saturday 2019

i received an email from krispie kreme, giving me a voucher for a free doughnut. they are rather good to give out these free doughnuts now and then if u subscribe to their newsletter. so i went to victoria station, after going to the victoria library to read the saturday papers, and got one and ate it there as there is free water available in the station.

its quite pleasant in the station, there is wifi and the seats now have a little tray rest so can put the laptop there instead of on my lap.

its very quiet in the station. i noticed none of the stations in london have loud PA systems constantly making announcements, and there is no muzak either. now this is something i have noticed, in the past you constantly hear the tinkling of background music everywhere, but nowadays it is rare to hear them. i wonder if this is a recent development, that they have stopped playing muzak, or is it something they had stopped years ago and i have not noticed. it used to be you can hear this muzak played in the lifts all the time, but i dont hear them anymore, now that i come to think about it. we dont notice the absence of something. if this is the way now, abolishing muzak, i am all for it.

I learnt a new word from you “muzak” – interesting that there is now no piped in music in the stations in London. I believe this has to do with payment for royalties as we have to pay royalties to the music played in Singapore.

ah, so that is the reason why they stop the muzak. and i thought they did it to spare us. haha. but classical music have no royalty payments, yet they dont play them. there must be something about classical music that do not lend itself to muzak.
