london 1.04pm victoria library 17C sunny saturday 2019

i went back to that popup store by papajohn, the pizza company, to have another go of their sweets and coffee. it was not so busy today, even though the portobello road market was much busier, with lots more stalls with proper gazebos, and people.

even the tube station, ladbroke grove that i came out of was full of tourists going there. it was quite early too, around 10am, they disgorge themselves from the train, and hung about the station entrance trying to find their bearings, because there are not many signs telling them where to go for portobello st.

so it looks like saturday and perhaps sundays are the busy days for this market. after my coffee i went for a wander down the street, looking at the vendors. the food stalls were busy with people eating, and buying from them, unlike yesterday when there was no one because  the stalls themselves were not ready with the food. the owners were still cooking the food.  now at about the same time as yesterday, it was busy with people eating.

I am surprised that Pappajohn is also in UK.

i did not know of them even. i looked them up when i read your message, and found the nearest one to me is in kennington. they dont have any branches in central london. they are american. so their popup store does publicise their name. and they do free deliveries if over £10. are their pizzas better than dominos, or pizza express, or pizzahut i wonder? to me pizzas all taste the same,(ie salty) and it is only the amount of toppings they give that determines who is better. are they big in singapore?

They had 2 branches here. Now only 1 left. Pricier than Dominos or Pizza Hut and I can understand why as PappaJohns more like an upper class category of pizza.

it seems they are trying to make it more upmarket in singapore, like what they had done with burgers here in london. macD and burgerking (£2 can get a burger and fries with a voucher) have dominated the cheap burgers , so now there are many upmarket versions for £10 and people are getting used to paying £10 for it. pizzas are allready expensive for what they are, so here in uk they are giving away free dough balls, or all you can eat for £8 weekdays, £11weekends or unlimited salads.
i see a trend in raising what used to be poor people’s foods into gourmet foods and charging high prices.
