lovely greens veggie

21 Feb

i like greens very much, here they are in the sink floating in water , ready to be washed. they have a slight bitter taste when you stir fry them, with lots of garlic; which reminds me of kai lan, chinese brocolli. so it is lovely to be able to get a similar taste as kai lan using these very common vegetable.  and they are very cheap, 600mg for 52p. tesco is the only supermarket selling them.

i remember eating long ago in a traditional workman cafe in south london, where they were using these greens in a roast beef/pork/lamb with two/three veg with gravy. i dont think they are still in business now. or if they are the prices will have gone up a lot.

i think they remind  simon too , because he told me that after going to his doctor appointment he means to go to the sainsburys to get a chicken to roast. and i am sure he will be using the greens.

added . saw a headline just now about price of stamps to be raised. i seldom use the mail so this is not affecting me. let them increase it all they like haha. i am sure many of us have long ago stopped sending things by mail.

First Class stamp to 76p and a Second Class stamp to 65p

  • First Class stamp will jump 6p to 76p and Second Class will go up to 65p
  • Company said price increases are ‘necessary’ to ensure sustainability of service
  • Royal Mail said it is ‘operating in a challenging business environment’

there are lots of things nowadays which used to be essential in the past which now we dont use anymore. the red public telephone  call booths comes to mind. i dont think anyone uses them to make phone calls anymore, since we all have mobile phones. those booths are just there for tourists to use as photo opportunities now.

The red telephone boxes in Blackpool are actually Grade II listed by English Heritage now. No phones in them though, you just stand in them to get out of the coastal wind while you use your mobile.

It is funny how snail mail is going up in price round the world and I guess it is attributed to lesser economies of scale to send mail by post these days. I do love the nostalgic feel of receiving cards on special occasions. On the veggies, yes, I remember getting those same ones whilst I was living in Oregon. It looked like cabbage except deep green like yours but tastes like Kai Lan. Enjoy!
