how much internet speed do u really need?

my usage for the past week. so it looks like simon has restrained himself and not downloaded too many stuff. because we are within the permitted usage and so not slow down the speed.

it seems my download speed is about 5.8mbps upload speed about 0.8mbps. this article about how much speed is needed for each activity is useful,

Activity Usage Required Our Recommended Speed
Email 1 Mbps 1 Mbps
Web browsing 3-5 Mbps 5-10 Mbps
Social media 3-5 Mbps 10 Mbps
Video Calls 3-5 Mbps 10-20 Mbps
HD Streaming 5-10 Mbps 10-20 Mbps
Online Gaming 3–6 Mbps 25-35 Mbps
4K Streaming 25 Mbps 35 Mbps

for us, we only do the first two, and the 4th, HD streaming. it needs 5-10mbps, so it seems we are just about within the speeds needed. i think these are for playback and catch up tv, or downloading films, because if we watch the tv programs as it happens, we get it without any glitches.

i am glad i can have quite smooth downloads for what i like to do, which is browsing the internet, getting emails, and watching the live webcams and videos of the various websites. so no need to upgrade.it does surprise me how little we need in terms of speed. most activities require less than 10mbps. 4k streaming is the only one that needs more. a lot more . i dont really know what 4k streaming is… and we now have 5k , but they are something to do with mobile phones i think. i suspect we dont really need such high speeds for doing majority of the stuff we use the internet for.
