talktalk just told me my broadband will rise £2 to £22 a month

london 12pm 10C sunny friday 2021

i read it from a blog sometime ago, warning there will be this rise in the broadband tariff of talktalk, but i thought i got a 2yr contract which expires dec2021, and i thought they have guaranteed no increase for the life of the contract. but i was wrong. today i got an email from talktalk saying it is going to rise by £2 on 19april 2021. ah well, i guess everyone else is raising their prices so no point shopping around. i am not on fibre, because i am not sure my block of flats are fibre enabled. i dont know who or how to find out if we are fibred. so far my speed is ok, barely… simon says it does affect the catch up tv that he watches, slows it down, but the live tv programs are fine. no problems with them. nowadays with so many repeat programs on tv, i dont watch tv much . so i use the broadband only for surfing the internet. and that is doing fine. it is easier to just go along with it.

what i hope is that i dont have to move to fibre, because it is always more expensive. they entice u with a cheap entry tariff, then increase it rapidly later on in the contract and then again up it when u renew the contract. they know that once u get used to fast downloads you wont tolerate going back to slow downloads .

they warned that from now on every april, they will increase it by ‘rate of inflation plus 3.7% whichever is lower’, so next april they said it will be 3.7%. (presumably they expect rate of inflation to be higher than 3.7%.or want to put a floor on the increase, so that even if rate of inflation is low, they can still get their 3.7%increase. i have been thinking what they meant because whatever inflation is, if u add 3.7, as they said,  it will always be higher than 3.7…  i conclude that they are taking in the possibility of deflation…for eg -1%deflation, a recession in other words. than the increase will be 2.7%.

i guess it is inevitable that prices will rise, because people are using broadband so much. companies must have to spend money to keep up capacity, so they will pass those costs to the customer. the other way is to put a limit on how much G you can download and i dont think we will like that.

added 2pm 11C sunny

its a lovely sunny day so i went out to sit in the sun in the communal gardens, and was able to grab the tate gallery wifi, and so was able to get online whilst sitting there. and took some photos of the cherry blossom there.

11.45pm 5C dry sunrise 6.07am, sunset 6.11pm length of day 12hrs5mins. tomorrow will be 3mins 58secs longer

i wonder if i had missed the equinox. google says

Spring Equinox 2021 in Northern Hemisphere will be at 09:37 onSaturday, 20 March

tomorrow sunrise is 6.04am, sunset 6.13pm so i wonder where is the 12hr day and night?

it is a flat £2 rise to everyone, no matter if u are on the lowest tariff, which i am, or the most expensive fibre ones. they all include the rental of the landline. so i guess it is still quite reasonable.

oh, if it had been £22 rise, i would be up in arms about it and seek to move right away…. haha.but having said that, i had another look at the figures. come to think of it, this £2 a month rise means it is £24 a year… , it is actually more than £22… so if u look at it , it really is a £24 rise…so how come i am not incensed at it and move!!! its clever of them to present it as a £2 rise a month… people would look at the £2 and think that is alright… but it adds up to a lot.
