lots of foreign news happening

15 Oct

london 11.48am saturday 2016 cloudy 14.2C

3.30pm 17.1C sunny/cloudy

things are v quiet in london, though not so in paris, there pictures in today’s online daily mail show migrants sleeping in the streets altering the whole character of how we like to think of paris, the romantic city. before and after pictures taken by someone with a hidden camera shows the aftermath of a police clearance of the area.  it is no wonder the person who took the pictures is not sympathetic. it looks like a post apocalyptic city.

the dailymail online coverage is much more interesting than its printed newspaper today. it also shows an article about the tribute service for the 86 who died in the bastille day massacre.

and an article about the effect of shutting down of the red light districts in thailand as a result of the death of the king of thailand. it looks very eerie, all shut like that. to those of us used to seeing lights and noise and brashness and vibrant activity associated with the nightlife in bangkok, it looks weird….  it is not a good time to be a tourist there . the moaning mourning will last for a year. for a month no alcohol to be served and no festive making.

the death has affected even london, there was a thai food festival that was supposed to go on friday in spitalfields and it was cancelled.

this guy in thailand on twitter has listed all the festivals that are cancelled because of this death.

another free invite to an exhibition

9 Jan

london 4.04pm friday 2016 11.9C cloudy, some rain.

this one i got in an email, giving me free ticket to see the place in the sun exhibition in olympia on 6-8may 2016. well, at first i thought i wont bother to get the ticket, but i had second thoughts , no harm in getting it, and later nearer the time i can decide to go or not. or give the ticket to someone else.

i have been two years ago, when i got a free ticket, and did not go last year because they did not send me a free invite; and this year they did. haha. the exhibition is linked to the tv program of the same name.

the last time i went i thought it was all right, but found i was not really interested as i dont really want to buy any property abroad. what is the point? if u own someplace abroad, it  means there is pressure to go there every year  to make full use of it, and i just know it will get boring if i have to go every year.

the big reason why people buy these places is the sun. but since i never did worship the sun that much, i can take it or leave it. and for the last 10 yrs at least i have left it, not bothering to holiday in europe in summer.

also, the air fares are not such a good bargain anymore. and that is another reason not to buy. in the past, air fares are so cheap, you can just hop onto a plane and go there any old weekend.

recently i looked at easy jet fares to murcia, (because it is near vera playa, the naturist area in spain) and it is over £100 rtn. and this was in june 2016. in july, august it will be even more. so no thanks.

i can understand sun lovers will be tempted to buy a place in those sunny areas, because in uk, the sun is fickle and unreliable. haha.

but most of them dont realise that even if u do go there, u can get too much sun, in that it gets too hot; or their winters are just as cold as uk, though they might have more sun. so u end up not going except in small windows of good weather in spring or autumn when the weather and fares are just right.

and then there is the question of what to do when u are there. most of them end up drinking more than is good for them. haha.

now i come to think about, there really is nothing that exciting that i want to do now, that i dont allready can do if i want. so i was thinking winning a lot of money wont really change much for me. in fact, it might make it worst, in that with all that money, i start thinking i got to do something with it, or go somewhere, or buy more stuff, or get more experience, much of it i might not be interested to do at all. i mean bungy jump? or high dive and parachute down? i have no interest in doing them, and i doubt having lots of money will make me want to do them .

it makes me think there is nothing really that having a lot of money will improve my life right now. it is very good allready.

thinking of your holiday abroad?

5 Jan

london 9.37pm 9.9C tuesday 2016 it says fog, but when i look outside, it does not look foggy. sky looks clear, the road is wet which suggests that it rained earlier.

i am sure it cannot be busy in town tonight. certainly when i take a look at the outside through my window, i dont feel any urge to go out. i am glad to be indoors and not outside.

and people are skint, and want to lose weight, or so i gather from reading in the newspapers… all those articles about dieting, and having a dry january, or having a veganuary.

someone mentioned that not every person who  is skint is because they have overspent over christmas, so they say dont criticise these people as  feckless people who bring misfortune on themselves … some are skint because their income had dropped due to not working over the christmas and new year break. many businesses take extended holidays and so are not opened and the workers are not earning, or if they are self employed no one is giving them any work. so for these people the extended holidays are a poor time.

the evening standard have a article saying next, the clothes chain of shops reported poor earnings over the christmas period. Next the clothes chain, it seems, have not  reported a drop in sales before. and they suspect other high street chains will be reporting the same.

well january will be even bleaker, or will it? i was up on the bus crawling along regent street to oxford circus this afternoon, and it did seem less crowded than usual.

Next blames the mild weather… whilst acknowledging that it is a poor excuse to blame the weather. i should think so too. i mean if it is snowing will they blame the bad weather? though we would most probably look more kindly on that excuse as blaming it on  snow sounds a better excuse than mild weather for bad sales.

it must be very tiring to be always chasing sales, and always wanting sales to go up and up. what an awful way to live.

i do enjoy this weather we are having. it is cooling down now. still mild as far as i am concerned. but my friends dont like the cold, saying they are going away ,one to malaysia, the other to goa, india; to get some warm weather. another is allready in mexico. so most of them have their thoughts turned to planning their holidays abroad.

they still like travelling abroad. i am glad i dont like that anymore, so i dont feel envious of them. all i can think of when i hear them, is silently saying to myself, rather they then me. haha.

the papers are full of adverts for holidays. and cruises. and the weekend newspapers are full of travel articles.

i suppose it can bring on depression for those who are allready thinking their lives are dull, to read all these people supposedly having a wonderful time abroad, and they are stuck in cold grey london. one of my friends feel that way. i tell him otherwise, but of course he dont believe me.
