cleaning my flat and lee child

24 Jan

london 2.34pm 7C rain friday 2020

i have been spending the time doing cleaning , seeing this is chinese new year eve and i haven’t been cleaning the flat for ages. and i dont mean just the common parts, but that part of the room just by my bed, my side of it, that corner have never been cleaned for so long, i have forgotten when i last cleaned it. so there is alot of dust there.

it is high time i got rid of all that , and now it is nice and clean. and while i am in the mood, i set about cleaning the rest of the flat, the lounge and hallway, especially so everything is now quite neat and clean.

dust seem to accummulate so easily, so that i wish i got a feather duster. i had the chance to get one long ago, but decided not to and i kind of regret it now. it is not easy to find feather dusters in charity shops, i wonder why. they are brilliant for hiding the dust, as u can sweep the tops of furniture with it and sweep the dust to the ground and so they dont become so obvious lying on top of shelves and tables etc, and lampshades looking so obviously dusty.

as it is , i have to use a wet sponge, and it really makes the dust all cloggy, as they make clumps and you have to wash them off and they then clog up the sink hole. you could ask why dont i just use the vacuum cleaner, they have an attachment that u can use to sweep the tops of furniture , but simon lost ours long ago, and so i dont have that attachment, which is the reason why i have not cleaned that corner of my bedroom for ages.

with the attachment i can clean that corner without moving furniture, as it is i had to move the locker and chair this time , and that is quite a bother, hence i have been putting it off. anyway it is done now so maybe i wont need to clean that for another 10 yrs, haha.

and i have been doing the laundry too, the bedsheets, duvet, etc, and our clothes which have filled up a whole big laundry basket. but it is easy to do laundry as the machine does all the work. i have to do two loads.

and i found that i have missed going to the free food giveaway at covent gdn at 12.30pm today. it is made from food that are too misshapen  or weird looking so that they cannot be sold at supermarkets, so this company does them and give the cooked food to charity… ah well, nevermind really, because it is all vegetarian, and i find i dont mind missing out on that.

i have been reading books by lee child, his john reacher novels. i have heard of him of course and recently he was in the news about him passing on the baton to his brother, letting him write the novels now.

simon says he has a formula, and the stories all follow the same story line, but i have read one, it is the first book by him that i have read, and it is one of his  john reacher novels, and i do find it rather good.

it is very suspenseful and full of action, and quite interesting plotlines too…. and they are very easy reads, and he writes well, so that u are pulled along to read more and more wanting to find out how it goes, even though of course you know that john reacher will win in the end.

i am reading them via a ebook format, and they are very suitable for that format, as i can read them offline, so whenever i am in a place where i cannot get online, i can get into them and  have something to read.  the first novel i read is called ’61 hours’, and this one i am reading is called ‘bad luck and trouble’. at the moment i find them very unusual, but i guess once i read more and more i wonder if i shall get a bit bored with the same action and writing style. who knows. but he have been going on for a long time, churning them out and they are still being read, so maybe it can get addictive….

washing up liquid

4 Sep

london 8.35pm 17C dry night tuesday 2018

11pm . today i used up the last of the washing liquid by ecover, which i got free in their promotion in 3rd may 2018. it is 4sept, so it took me 4 months to finish it. there were 5 bottles 450ml each.  i diluted it by a 10th, that is why i made it last me so long.

hang on.(even with me diluting them i used 5 bottles in 4months. so each bottle dont even last a month… what is going on? have i made a mistake? have i miscounted the bottles and it is not 5 bottles that i took from them? i am sure i got 5 bottles 450ml each. they were really generous with giving it out and not restricting how much each of us can get.

is it possible that i have used so much so quickly??? it makes me think that each undiluted bottle would be quickly used up in the ordinary usage. that means each household must use up a lot of washing up liquid at normal usage.) i am surprised it took only 4months . diluting it by so much, i should expect each bottle to last me 2months each. i think simon has been wasting it. he tends to squirt a lot out and then squirt out somemore, just to soak the dishes. there is no need to add so much washingup liquid when u just want to soak the dishes. usually i end up washing them… and i throw  the dirty water away as soon as i start washing them. i know i should clean the dishes using the dirty water, but it is just too dirty… with bits of food and gravy in it. and i use a fresh load of washing up liquid from a push container that delivers a fixed amount. also, the ecover liquid is colourless, that makes it unnoticeable how much you use so that it is easy to over squirt the amount.

anyway it is all gone now and i am back to using asda’s basic washing liquid. i went to buy it today and found out that it is 34p for 500ml. it must have gone down in price.( i have checked and found from my old records that i bought it in jan and it was 40p. ) i bought two. it must be the cheapest washing liquid in london, if not all of uk. all the other supermarkets have been increasing the price and decreasing the amount. if asda can maintain the amount and decrease the price as well, it just goes to show how much profiteering the others are doing on their washing up liquid. they are just using brexit as an excuse to increase the price and their profit.

i dilute it by a 10th too, even this cheap washing up liquid, so it should last me quite a bit. haha. i know, it is so cheap i could use it full strength and it would still last me , so you might wonder why i bother. but i find it is too concentrated and i waste a lot if i dont dilute it. i dislike waste.

the asda liquid  also have a thick consistency and so does not flow so easily… that makes it easy not to over squirt it out. but i dilute it so that does not apply. i use a punch down dispenser that delivers a fixed amount. but simon uses another container that just pours it out. and that delivers a lot.

i find, now that i have used the ecover washing up liquid, an expensive brand, and can compare it to the cheapest asda brand, that there is no difference in cleaning whether u use expensive or cheap washing up liquid. they are all the same really. they all do a good job of cleaning the dishes.

london 7.37pm 11.9C dry sunset 7.25pm. tuesday 2018

i forgot about sunset is so late, so that when i went to sleep at about 4.30pm it was still very bright and when i woke at 6pm, and it was still bright. it felt weird when woke up and i drew the curtains and saw how bright it was outside.

and when i looked outside just now it was twilight and the sky was lighter, rather than the pitch black you get in the tropics. and when i looked up in the weather website what time sunset was today, i was surprised that it has only just set… i  was still thinking sunset was about 6.25pm, the old time.

i cleaned my windows earlier today so looking out , it was through clean windows . it is lovely to see the world looking so clean. haha.

yesterday,  my upstairs neighbour was ahead of me as we  came back at about the same time.

as we approach the entrance to our flats in the block. i saw she paused and turned round to me to point out to me  a fox outside the door to our flats. it was quite plump looking, which is good, because i have seen a fox once, quite some time ago, and it looked very scrawny. poor thing. it is not often we see a fox around here, far less one in broad daylight and so daring.  it was sitting just outside the door to the communal entrance. on seeing us, it walked off in the opposite direction and disappeared round the corner.

anyway as we were climbing up to the flat,  and she mentioning how nice the day was, i said it does mean the grime in my window is more apparent now. and she mentioned she had a cleaner , an elderly man who comes to clean the windows from inside her flat, but he seem to have taken a runner. she had not seen him this year.  i was surprised to hear her say he cleaned from inside the flat.

i thought he might have a ladder or long handled brush to clean them from the outside. i have seen it being done by someone else on some other flats, some other time. the man was on the ground level, and holds a long handled brush and  the brush had a water supply coming out of it, the hose being connected to a water tap, which allows water to drip out and so wash the windows.

it is quite a contortion to clean from inside. i remember in the past when i did it,  it was quite a chore. and cannot imagine an elderly person would be able to do it.

so today,i just decided to clean the windows. i still have memories of how difficult it can be cleaning the middle panes…that is why i have not done them for 3 yrs.

but this time, i sprayed 3 of the windows all together at one go, and then wiped them all together with the same newspaper page. so that was done very quickly, and follow up that with another scrunched up page to wipe  off all the smears and those panes of glass  were done. so with this new way of doing them, i finished them off very quickly and it was not such a strain on me… hmm, if it is so easy to do, i might do them more often actually. i have not cleaned my windows for 2 or 3 years,  and this is the first time… mainly because the memory i had  was that it was so difficult. and that was when i was 3 years younger… i figured with everything getting harder as i age, it must be real difficult to do now. but surprisingly, my change of tactic seem to make the job quicker and easier. though i did notice the newspapers seem to make my hands go black with newsprint. i dont remember them being so black last time… but then 3 yrs is a long time to remember.

or maybe i used the quality newspapers, rather than the metro free newspaper i used this time. but whatever, newspapers are perfect for cleaning windows. but it seems the strategy is to find a way to do them quick, the quicker the better and less strain for me.
