croissant fr lidls

30 Mar

london 12.33pm 19C sunny saturday 2019 sunrise 5.41am sunset 6.30pm

lots of sun outside my window, the website says it is 19C which is high for this time of year. but not hot , just comfortable. i still need to wear two layers of outwear when i go out. but i think it is me, i feel the cold, i think others are ok without layering up; because i see a lot of young people walking about in t shirts.

its very pleasant today.

i just had my croissant from lidls, as i specially went there to buy it, and whilst there i also decided to buy what i require… sultanas, for my breakfast porridge, sweet pickle to eat with crackers, and 2 bananas to make me regular. i am liking croissants from lidls because they are cheaper than anywhere else. haha.

today is when the bus 88, the one that runs just by my flat, changes its destination and go on to parliament hill fields, where before it would stop short at camden  on their northern route. it will replace C2, which will disappear.

C2 runs from oxford circus (in the past it used to run from victoria) to parliament hill fields.) i used to take it when i go to highgate ponds, to the men changing area, where there is the only official nude public area in london. so now i can go there direct on one bus from my flat. that is rather nice.

today, also, the bus 88 i took to get back, has a new driver. they have shifted them from the C2 bus, which is a small bus, to drive the double deckers of the 88. and he was unfamiliar with the workings of the doors. he did not open the exit doors and one of us have to go to him and tell him to open, and he opened the front doors, so that i have to walk up to the front to get out. i daresay there will be a learning curve for these new drivers before they get the hang of it.

tomorrow we shall be changing the time, forward 1hr to summer time, and it is mother’s day tomorrow too. though summer is not here yet. it is still spring. summer starts at the summer equinox june 21. i hear lots of people saying we should follow the EU and stick to one time throughout the year, but i like the time changing, moving from GMT to BST and back again.

even though the change over is tomorrow at about 2am, we will change it tonight at whatever time we go to bed. for me usually about 11pm, i shall be turning the clocks forward 1hr. this means tomorrow the sunrise is 1hr later, 6.39am actually , and the sunset will also be 1 hr later.7.32pm.

spring equinox

20 Mar

london 10.38am 11.2C cloudy (sunrise 6.04am,sunset 6.13pm) wednesday 2019

it is not really 12hr day and night. but i have long ago realised that it is just a fleeting moment when the sun cross the equator on its way north, and so the sunrise and sunset hours dont always fit.

added  23.3.19. this article explains why.

At equinox, the measurement is taken from when the centre of the sun is at the horizon and is 12 hours sunrise to sunset and vice versa.

However, it is the top edge of the sun which is visible first at sunrise and last at sunset.

Also, because of light refraction, there is still light for a time once the sun is no longer visible. This adds extra time to daylight hours.

In spring, this means that the time when day and night are actually equal happens before the equinox.

This is known as the equilux which means “equal light”.

This year it occurred on St Patrick’s Day, 17 March, three days before the equinox.

today i saw a website saying  the sun will cross it at about 5pm EDT. (whatever EDT means). what is it in GMT i wonder. but it seems it is meaningless, unless you know what location it refers to. this link tells when the sun is directly over the equator at the places mentioned. in london it is at 9.58pm wednesday, (today) but since it is night here when it happens we wont notice it.

2.05pm 12.8C cloudy .

its a cloudy day so not really so bright if we are expecting something different because it is the equinox. haha. just goes to show local conditions will bear a strong effect on what we see.

i went out earlier to lidl, in stockwell, to buy their croissant. i felt like giving myself a treat. i like the stockwell branch of the lidl, as bus 88 goes there directly from near my flat. i sure enjoyed that croissant.

added. 5.22pm, i got the latest evening standard and saw this article about the bus services …

Tube passengers will generate a bumper £823 million “profit” for  Transport for London due to the annual hike in Travelcard prices, it was revealed today.

However TFL as a whole will make an overall £742 million loss in 2019/20, largely due to the record £722 million subsidy needed to run the bus  network. link

i m surprised that the bus service is making a loss. it seems falling numbers using the buses. i did not get this impression that fewer people are using it. it is not obvious to me as a bus passenger, because to me the buses are full of passengers. but i think with the tubes now running all night at weekends, there is no need to take the buses home after midnite and there must be a drastic drop in night passengers as a result.

so it will mean in future a lot of bus routes will be cut or shortened or changed. allready i can see it happening, esp now that u can change to different buses free if u do it  within the hour. a good case in point is the bus 23, it takes me from the paddington library to soho and haymarket. now i have to change buses, there is no direct bus anymore because they change the 23 to go to hammersmith instead of to the strand like before. though the reason they gave is to reduce buses that go through oxford st, to bring down pollution there.

so all those buses that have very long routes will be split or shortened. that must also mean bus drivers will be made redundant as you wont need so many of them or maybe not. they will save a lot of money if they can reduce the number of bus drivers.

i hear of other places outside london losing their bus services and never expect london to be affected. but it seems even london is not immune to this change. i wonder what can be the underlying reason. why are so many not using the buses? can uber be a big reason for the change with it being cheaper to call a uber , or share a uber , as well as other modes of transport being available, like lots of online cycle hire, with electric bikes too. (though electric bikes are not started yet in london).

i like using the buses and it would be a shame if it is curtailed. though there are so many buses in london and they are so frequent, i doubt that i shall have long to wait for the right bus to come.
