london 3.18pm 6.7C cloudy wednesday 2019

have to get used to writing 2019 now.

for my first find of the year, i found a set of pyrex plates. 3 same size, and one smaller. they were clear glass and have no patterns on them. i like pyrex dishes a lot that is why i decided to take these.

and we can always do with plates. i get a nice feeling when i find things i like and can keep them.

found thing

26 Nov

london 5.40pm 8.5C dry dark, saturday 2016

my life is very nice now.

but reading the news, i see that people are asking questions of it. like this one… whether it is ok to lie to your children about santa claus. its a fairy tale to start with, i think, but  somehow the fairy tale has crossed over into real life. so that parents instead of telling the kids it is a fairy tales  and let them know it is a fairy tale, have somehow found that their children actually believes it is real, and the parents are now reluctant to tell them no. once they perpetuate the fiction, it becomes harder and harder to tell the truth. we all know about that, if u tell a lie, you start a devious journey of more lies to cover that one and it will grow.

another dilemma is circumcision. male ones. it started off as a way to differentiate your group from others. and it just grew and grew so that now people identify their religion with that foreskin, or lack of it. now with female genital circumcision, the modern world has come up with old practises.

it used to be child brides are acceptible, but now that one seems to have been knocked on the head.

it used to be multiple wives are acceptible. now i wonder what the status is on that.

it used to be covering females completely,  except the eyes was acceptible. now that is being questioned. the modern world is encroaching on religious and age old  practises.

i found this item. i dont really know what it is. i tried to google it,

Digital StillCamera

any ideas what it is for?

google says they are cylindrical pencil cases. one wonders why anyone would like to have such a gold posh looking thing just to put pencils in it. of course, seeing i found it on the road into some mews houses in marylebone area,  its very likely it belongs to some posh kid who have these things to carry to school. haha. anyway i was thinking of using it as a bag to hang round my neck to carry my bus pass, coin box, and even pens and pencils. haha. i would prefer it a little smaller. added. i found a label inside. it is clinique. ah, so it is a make up bag.

i saw this, with a game of thrones image on it which says it is a man money bag, coin purse, as well as a pen, pencil case. the one i found looks too feminine to be a man’s money bag really.

added 12.1.2019. i still am using it after all this time. seems it is about 3yrs since i found it. it has been very useful to me. its shape makes it easy to get at the things inside.

found things

10 Jun

london 10.20am friday 2016 bright cloudy

one of the small joys of living here is finding things and yesterday this is what i got back from the recycling area. it is a collapsible crate. the funny thing was as i proceeded with my way to the library and was carrying it with me i saw near the library a delivery man wheeling  a stack of these crates, in their collapsed state, to his van parked by the road.

its one of those things about life, you never notice these things until u are aware of it, and then u see it everywhere.

i found this in the recycling bin area. it is a collapsible crate.

i was thinking of using it as a laundry basket , just for that time after the wash and you want something to carry the washed clothes away to the hanging clothes rail to dry.

london 9.56pm sunday 15.8C

not sure if my weather website is correct, but 15.8C at this time of night is really mild. yesterday i was browsing the supermarkets and saw morrisons were selling basmati rice 10kg , 2packs for £15. that is rather a good price. i tried to find out from the website if it is only basmati and not a mixture of inferior rice with basmati, as sometimes they do, and sell at a lower price. but there was no information.

i was tempted to go and buy it, even though i might discover it is mixed rice;  especially since i saw their pork is also £2/kg.

this sunday, today, i will be going to the library at paddington to read the sunday papers and then i go on to another library. and i remember this sunday is remembrance day and so whitehall will be closed to buses.

so my plan was to take the bus number 2 to my stop and get back to take the shopping trolley that i have found years ago but never use. i would need the trolley because i intend to buy 20kg of that rice and it will be too heavy to carry. i dont have a bag for that trolley, because when i found it, it was missing its shopping bag. i only found the frame, but it has a seat that you can drop down, and i was so taken by that design that i kept the trolley anyway.

but guess what, i was walking from the paddington library to catch the bus to the other library and i passed a pile of stuff dispersed on the pavement. someone or some thing had disturbed the bags of stuff. and i saw a shopping bag lying there. i walked off and only realised that i could do with that, and returned to pick it up.

it turned out to be really useful. as it can be fitted over the trolley i found and it was stable. i was thinking of using a laundry bag as a shopping bag, but this one is better. so i got my rice and was able to transport it back without breaking my back. haha.

i can manage to carry 15kg, which i did the last time i bought so much rice. it was at asda in the old kent road. that cost £4 each 5lb bag. and so the weight was distributed nicely between two hands. that was why i could carry them. but this 20 kg really is heavy, even with the trolley i could feel the weight. ah well, i shall be ok for rice for 6 months now.

fortunately, the rice is unmixed and all basmati rice. otherwise i wont have bought it. in fact, i nearly did not buy it because there was only one bag on the shelf. and it was £9 if u buy just one. i asked the staff if they would let me buy the one bag for the reduced price, but he said no. i was returning it to the shelf, when i looked across the aisle and saw a stack of these bags on the other side. well i was very glad i saw it. the journey was not wasted after all. i could not find their pork for £2/kg but that does not matter as i got the rice. so that was my rice saga today. haha.

i haven’t thought much about shopping bags before this. its something we see around us all the time and so is invisible in a way. now i find myself looking at other people’s shopping bags esp if they are on wheels. i must say i like this one i found it is so colourful, and i hadn’t realised they can be so bright as most times i see quite dull versions.

what do u make of it? it has screws that look like ikea, i googled it but can only come up with this , that the seat is rush chair, on a site that repairs them.

recently my neighbour gave me a nightstand. its this ikea hemness.  its allready assembled, though in the past somebody has to assemble it. it looks very complicated to do,as this video shows.

free wifi is everywhere

3 Dec

this is spoken from  a london perspective of course.

i got an email from wifi02, telling me that there is a £1000 draw for those who log onto the free wifi everyday.

i wonder why they want people to log on to it…ifit is sending me lots of adversts it is not working for them because i dont get any adverts sent to me when i am on.

like now when i am at the kfc in victoria and using the 02wifi.

there are lots of eating places on this mezzanine floor and no one bothers u if u stay here as there are lots of tables.

and because of the email from 02wifi, i have logged onto them rather than the victoria place wifi.

actually the 02wifi is much faster than the local one. so now that i know of 02wifi, i will use them even if the promotion for december is over. so maybe it is working, this email promotion. haha.

but it also is good for me too to know of it. otherwise i wont know they are here and that they are so fast, faster than the wifi provided by this shopping area. seems like a win-win situation.

i was earlier at the library and their wifi is now on and it is so slow. when it was down the last few days i was using another wifi, and that was faster. but now i see that wifi is gone. so it must have been set up by the library to replace the normal wifi. but their normal wifi provider is so slow it is terrible.

it has to be said that each local library seem to have different speeds. the one in charing cross is quite fast.

but now that i know of 02wifi i shall seek them out and give them preference. i shall send this now but i hope to find an outdoor spot and get a bit of sun as it is such a sunny day today.

1.48pm well i am back home. went looking for an outdoor spot. there are many around here but it was quite cold outside what with a breeze blowing and the sun went behind a cloud, so i just wandered to the local waitrose but the queue for the coffee machine was quite long and the queue to pay was even longer, as itis the peak of the lunch hour, so i decided to go to house of fraser to use their loo. haha. it is very pleasant inside , and i browsed the goods . saw a long plastic mac, made in china costing £10, maybe it is useful, though it is so long, and it packs into quite a large pack.

i had a BP poncho given to me when i went to see the opera broadcast in trafalgar square and that is ideal size but i seem to have lost it as i could not find it anywhere in the flat. ah well, it might turn up one day. haha. in the meanwhile i shall use a virgin marathon jacket that i found in hyde park after kate and william’s wedding. i think that was 2011 or 10. (googled it and it is 11 april 2011).

all the things i use are things i found and they are really very long lasting and so useful. but those days are gone now i think because i have not found anything at all in the last year or so.

oh i should correct myself. there was a woolen hat , like a bobble hat but without the bobble, (found out from google that they are called beanies) on the bus this morning, but i have so many of them that i have found over the years that i dont want to pick up anymore.

added.6.12.14 i have discovered that not all the 02wifi is fast. for eg when i was posting the above, i was sitting at the kfc but got o2 by cafe rouge. that was very fast. but another day i sat at the macdonald sitting area and got the o2 done by macdonalds and that was very slow. perhaps macdonalds dont want to encourage people sitting there just using wifi.

found this coffee maker

1 Dec

its been some time since i found anything. someone left this and even though blackened from the gas fire, it has all the parts. these things are indestructible, so i am sure it still works, and maybe was discarded because it did not look so nice. but just because it looks well used does not mean it is useless. so i took it and shall offer it to visitors who like that kind of thing.

I have googled it and found out it is called a moka pot

i found two pairs of reebok shoes

30 Dec

I was on my way to the gym at waterloo when I pass the recycling bins and saw a pair of reebok shoes. They look hardly worn, with the soles still intact, and there was a black bin bag near, and inside was another pair of reebok shoes, so I took them and carried on to the gym.Digital StillCamera

Earlier on I went to Brixton to buy garlic, and got 8 cloves for £1. Which is rather a good price. And onions for 50p. Simon loves his garlic. I myself don’t bother to use them because in uk the garlic is not very strong, and u can hardly get any flavour out of them. That is why I don’t buy them often. However simon last night mentioned to me there was no garlic, and so I know I can get them cheap at Brixton, whilst if he were to buy them at the supermarket they are wickedly expensive.

I am glad I decided to go by the recycling bins when I went to the gym. Usually I go by a different route.

So I am happy to find not only one pair of trainers, but two and reebok as well. They are a very good brand. Very well made, and light and nice to wear and lasts ages.

Haha. Such small things like this make me happy. U can see it does not take much to make me happy.

I have been looking at the sale prices of reebok in the shops and they are about £60 or so. Actually i can afford them, haha, but i am so used to finding things in recycling bins for free, that i just dont want to spend any money at all.

It makes me rather happy to save these shoes and prolong their working life as it were.

added. 8.1.16 one of the reebok pair have finally sprung a leak and have to be discarded. it has lasted about 3 yrs. the other is still going strong. its the pair with the dark reebok trademark.

added. monday. 26C. sunny. i am still using that shoe. i must have been mistaken about the leak, because it has not leaked ever since. and the other one is still unused after all these years.

added 14.8.18 finally, i have to throw away one of the reebok shoes. and only because the back heel section plastic backing got exposed and is digging into the heel of my foot , breaking the skin .
