basking in the sun

19 Apr

london 5.12pm 21.9C sunny tuesday 2016

first time this year that i sat out in the sun and basked in the warmth of it. it was about 3pm i think when i did it. the sun was shining strong enough to make me take the collapsible garden chair that i found a long time ago, and set it up in the courtyard facing the sun and sit there to enjoy the full blast of heat . and took along a book, two books in fact, because it was two sessions of heat  interrupted in between by a period when the sun got hid behind a big cloud that make me go in.

sometimes i think that is all life is about, to be able to sit in the sun and just enjoy its heat. just like those lizards we see in nature programs; and this we do in these northern climates, when winter is over and the sun sheds its welcome heat on to us.

very different from the fierce heat of sun in the tropical countries, when everyone flees from the sun if they can help it and hide away in the deep dark shades.

the temperature i see in the weather website now for london is 21.9C. i wonder if there is some mistake. looking at the various locations in london in westminster,as shown in the website  it ranges from 12.8C to 23C.

times like this when i would like to have my own thermometer to record the actual temperature outside my flat.

here is to all of us people all over the world who are enjoying just sitting in the sun, wherever they may be, and in all types of surroundings , whether sitting by the sea, on a sandy beach and hearing the sound of the waves, or in the countryside, with lush vegetation and birds singing. whether sitting in the sun, or in the shade of whatever trees there are, with fruits or without. all of us having this one thing in common, enjoying the sun.

tulips coming up to take its turn now to bloom. the daffodils are on the way out. that is a war memorial to commemorate the animals that are used in war.

princess mononoke’s warrior headpiece

london 5.55pm 5.4C sunday 14.2.2016

i was walking back from the library and saw this on the ground, it is a face hood. one that i have not seen before. it looks like this , worn by the warrior in princess mononoke. i happen to watch this and saw him and was reminded at how similar his head piece was to the thing i found.

the one i found is made of fleece. it has not got any brand name, which is surprising, because it looked very well designed. it has this inner face mask, with two draw strings on either side of the face to tighten it over the nose. very useful, because if there is a fierce cold wind blowing, the nose and mouth always gets it, so something to cover those two vulnerable areas would be great. the other areas which can get cold are the ears. this one protects them too. this design is like a balaclava, but much more elegant.

london 8.08am 3.2C cloudy but bright. monday 2016

i had to wait till this morning to get the picture of the hoodie.

its an interesting design. don’t you think? and no brand name. just a little label ‘made in china’ 100% polyester.

only a few days ago i was telling this guy who was waiting at the bus stop; who was saying to me he was freezing, that he should get a hoodie , a scarf and gloves. and i told him u can get it free too, people tend to drop those things, and i showed him all those things i was wearing which i got free from just finding them on the street. (and here is this hoodie, just lying on the pavement).

i ended up telling him off for not wearing these things, no wonder he felt cold.

nice weather we are having here in london.

london 15.9C sunday 2016 2.04pm. cloudy.

i was really surprised when i got back from the library to see this temperature on the weather website for 2pm.

when i was out and about earlier on,it did not feel that warm…maybe it was not sunny so i did not feel hot under my warm clothes . i remember all i did to cool down a bit was to remove the woolen scarf round my neck. (here, i can see how clothes can really create an enclosed warm environment round my body isolating me from the weather surrounding me. so much so that i dont really feel any cold or warmth from the outside surroundings. )

though in fact i might have got an inkling of how warm it was, when i saw a man with very pale skin running on the pavement wearing only a singlet, and  running shorts (and they are really short shorts, haha) and trainers. it was in the bishop’s bridge road, near porchester road. i thought he was mad, but it seems he was not and from him, i can sense it was really warm after all. at least it was dry. no rain.

london 5.31pm 14.7C, amazed it is still that high the temperature even though the sun has gone down. the road is wet, suggesting it must have rained .
