what is all this about bake off

i wonder if i am the only one not interested in the bake off show. there is a lot of angst now about it being bought by channel 4, and the bbc losing it to that channel.

here is a article about the C4 boss saying why she bought it, to prevent the show , produced by love productions which is 70% owned by sky, from going off terrestial tv.

C4 is owned by the british govt but funded by advertising. so u might be asking what is this govt owned channel bidding against itself as it were, pushing up the price fighting against another arm of govt, the bbc… it is not meant to operate this way. unless it really is… that any show that gets too expensive for the bbc, can go to c4, where it can be self funded via adverts. after all, it was only when talks broke down over money with the bbc that c4 offered to buy it.

so the bbc is like a nursery , nuture and cultivate talent and once the show gets too big and successful, hive it off to C4. it might be a good strategy actually. though as far as i am concerned, i dont care haha. i am not going to watch it at its new home. people making a competition out of bread and cake making will never swing my boat.

and what with 800mg bread being sold at 15p nowadays (like yesterday , so many warburtons loaves sold at reduced price)what is the point of making it yourself? i know, i  know… you can say but nothing tastes so good as bread you made yourself. not if i make it it is not. haha. i dont seem to have that knack of making it full of air so that it is light and airy. and bread i make gets mouldy real quick.

I don’t watch the show but love the fact that it seems so very dear to British hearts. In the end, who cares who produces it as long as it stays the same?

yes, exactly. though the two presenters are not going to be in the new location, so it may not stay the same… of course the new presenters might be better…can u get it in france too? surely not! i mean what can the french possibly find interesting about it. i always assume all french people are wonderful bakers.haha. and u can just step out to buy all the bread and stuff u want and all baked to perfection.

I think it’s a shame about the presenters, they’re what make the show! From what I have seen, it’s not so much about bread as sweets – cakes, desserts, etc. Of course we here in France are spoiled when it comes to fresh bread, and I would never bother making my own. But the TV kinda sucks. And as I’m an English speaker, nothing beats the BBC! I have a secret way of getting Sky TV (which I do pay for) but technically is not allowed in France, so I won’t reveal it here. 😉

hmm, i did notice that my expat friends like to see the bbc, and gets it somehow. he lives in spain. and it is a bit illegal from what i gather. not sure if he still can do it anymore. how come u are able to access the bbc whilst abroad… isn’t there a license fee to pay? or do people bypass it that is why u cannot reveal how u get it? hhaha. will it become more difficult to get the bbc now that the bbc wants viewers to pay the license fee, do u think? i cannot see how the bbc can enforce it frankly. what about channel 4, can u get that where u are? is their signal that powerful that it can beam all the way to france?
