1.1.21

london 8.27pm 4C haze friday 2021

must get used to writing 2021 now. so a whole new year is on us . i am very optimistic about it, and look for good things to come. we are out of the eu and we have vaccine for corvid. it is not remarked upon except in passing, but it is a huge achievement to get a vaccine so early. less than a year. they should spend huge effort to vaccinate as many people in the shortest time .

all other things are secondary. all those lockdowns and tiers and whatnot. or to shut down schools, or not. small beer. just get the vaccine out into the general population . it is quiet work without fanfare nor praise, nor heroism, or grand gestures trumpetted by the press, or social media,  but do that and do it quick.

this morning it was 0C at about 9am. i got it into my head to head to picadilly circus to the tesco there hoping to buy fruits, satsumas and bananas, and veggi, but it was closed. it is unusual for it to close, but then the new year parade that normally crowds this place has been cancelled so nothing happening. i will just have to wait till tomorrow to get my veggies and fruits. and i got an email greeting the new year from ian, telling me he was able to get 10p loaf of bread and fruits (he got a whole crate of avocados!) and stuff all reduced when he went to his waitrose yesterday. i myself have been wanting to get fresh loaves reduced at the end of the day, but it is impossible now because there are always long queues at that time, and i just hate queueing and so i have stopped going at that time. ah well, i shall see if my craving overcomes my dislike of paying the full price and i succumb haha. it is no big disaster if i do really. my liking to buy reduced price is just a game, and a hobby as it were. just for fun. but ian says it reminds him of me, when he found himself buying reduced priced foods yesterday.

I hope UK successfully clears 2 big hurdles – life post Brexit and getting Covid under management. I hope the vaccine works. Are you in line for the vaccine?

i am not a priority, the front line nhs workers and over 80s should get priority, than the other workers, for eg, teachers, workers in supermarkets etc, and rest of us can follow. it takes two shots, 3wks apart. so a lot of vaccines are needed, and a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. i should think it is quite a complicated logistical headache. then there is the storage of the vaccine, thawing it, etc, i am glad i dont need to worry about implementing it.
